DNC2020: Circular Economy in a Sustainable Society
@ Dresden
The Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC), since its inception in 2015, creates dialogue on nexus thinking that fosters research and capacity development activities in the sustainable and integrated management of water, soil, and waste. Water and soil play prominent roles as critical environmental resources in our societies and supply chains; the availability and quality of these resources are increasingly threatened by rapid urbanisation and modern lifestyles. The addition of waste as a resource makes DNC unique among other recent nexus discussions.
The third Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC2020) will take place 3–5 June 2020 under the theme “Circular Economy in a Sustainable Society”. Dresden is one of Germany’s most dynamic cities; the capital of Saxony is known for its indomitably pioneering approach, advancements in high technology, and strong research landscape.
DNC2020 aims to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable economy by focusing on identifying and discussing the concepts that nexus thinking offers to support the transition towards a circular economy. A Nexus Approach shares many synergies with the concept of a circular economy – a system that eliminates waste, keeps resources in use, and contributes to regenerating natural systems.

The aim of NBM @ Berlin 2019 is to discuss latest developments related to new business models for sustainable entrepreneurship, innovation, and transformation. Contributions to sustainable development, as demanded by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), require entrepreneurship and innovation to foster transitions to future-fit societies that build on values such as responsibility and justice and that no longer destroy the ecological foundations on which they depend. This endeavour benefits from inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary research. The domains of entrepreneurship, innovation, and transition studies – and particularly their intersections – hold huge potential to offer new approaches to tackle ecological and socio-economic challenges.
